Six climbing boots, two summit hearts, and one unbreakable bond symbolize the mountain climbing lives of renowned Colorado mountaineer, Cap Dashwood, and his beloved stick-carrying, climbing partner, Chaela, the Labrador retriever! These two crafters of a life above the clouds are currently in the midst of an unfathomable and historic mountain climbing adventure! This extraordinary, epic, and multi-year expedition was unimagined when puppy Chaela, at the tender age of 6 weeks and 5 days, rode on Cap’s shoulder as they ascended to Chaela’s very first mountaintop. It was an incredible introduction to the grand sport of mountain climbing for young Chaela! The precocious pup was then tasked with completing nearly 6 months of canyon, gorge, ledge, boulder, and rock wall training. Chaela handled the challenging terrain with ease. She was born to climb! The Labrador retriever puppy dog emerged from Cap’s tutelage brimming with confidence, bursting with unbridled energy, and eminently primed to attempt her first climb of the great Colorado high peaks! Chaela was just 7 months and 3 days old when the pup charged to the apex of Grizzly Peak, 13,427 ft. to achieve her first unassisted summit!

 

Cap, a seasoned mountaineer, quickly recognized in Chaela, a kindred mountain soul, and the mountain peaks soon gifted them with a shared life’s purpose. They set out to climb each mountain, together, every day, with infinite respect and gratitude for the mountains while refining their climbing skills and learning from the eternal wisdom of the peaks. To date, Cap and Chaela, climbing side-by-side, have reached more than 37,650 summits! These two vigorous and courageous climbing stalwarts have recorded an everyday summit streak that currently stands at 2,367 straight days! That’s more than 6 1/3 years, and there’s no end in sight!
